Genesis

With the advancement of medical care in India both private and public sectors are taking keen interest in investing in building healthcare infrastructure. This medical boom manifests in many new nurseries that have come up at district level in the recent past. Many government and private run hospitals have revamped their neonatal setups to meet the public demand for healthcare.

Consequently, last decade has witnessed parallel growth of high-end equipment, expertise and training in the country. It has also stimulated research in neonatology. These developments could cater to varied research publications. However, there exists only one national neonatology journal. Most research publications find home in broader pediatric specialty journal .

In view of dearth of publications to meet the demand of information we felt the need for a focused neonatology journal not only for the country but also for the entire Indian subcontinent. Against this backdrop, we have launched IJNMR as an initiative to fit the bill. Through this publication, we aim to bring neonatologists from across South East Asia on one platform where they could share their research and take note of the developments in the field of neonatal care.

There is no dearth of health journals in the world. Many quality journals are published in the Indian subcontinent itself. The editor-in-chief of the IJNMR has taken up the task of bringing out the journal as a challenge while working in a Western setup after spending almost a decade in private sector in the country.

However, in a short period of time, IJNMR carved a niche for itself in many ways. In fact, innovation has been a hallmark of the journal from the word go. The editor-in-chief has realised that although physicians in developing countries are witnessing a range of disease spectrums and acquiring a wealth of knowledge during high clinical exposure, they fail to share their valuable experience with others in the absence of a reliable medical journal which could bridge the communication gap.

As a result, many medical practitioners find it difficult to communicate and discuss on their professional issues in international forums. Besides lack of proper platform, lack of motivation and time due to their busy professional life are the key factors that prevent them from sharing their findings with others.

While many medical practitioners strongly feel the need to express themselves and air their opinion and, when it comes to write down the same most lack the motivation. The lack of scientific writing skills among young researchers and postgraduate students leads to failure of their research thesis reaching any journal of repute.

Editorial Statements

IJNMR comes as a ray of hope for many in bringing all medical research out of the closet for the benefit of medical science. What is more, it discourages publication of mediocre writings that merely represent pre-established and repetitive facts.

However, at times, the journal does allow publication of articles that may have been reported in Western literature but have not been reported from the developing and the underdeveloped world. This has a dual purpose – promotion of medical publication from these countries and recognition of the fact that disease and disease behaviour may vary from one population to another.

Promotion of research publication from less privileged parts of the world is the motto of the publishers of the IJNMR. While profit from the journal’s services is not the sole propose of the publishers, most services provided are at par or below the costs to the publishers.

All the same, IJNMR welcomes and encourages authors who want to submit their articles without availing its paid services. It does not charge for submission of manuscript prepared by the authors themselves.

IJNMR is a journal of wide scope with topics embracing neonatology and perinatology. The topics covered in the journal will be of relevance to neonatologists and perinatologists, researchers as well as specialists.

IJNMR editorial content and decisions are independent and hence not influenced by sponsorships or advertisements. Authors here are required to provide details in case of any conflict of interest which may be present in their manuscripts.

IJNMR respects the privacy of the authors and their personal information. Only information provided on the published manuscripts related to the manuscript in question is provided after permission from the authors. IJNMR does not share or provide personal information of authors with third party.

Acceptance and Rejection: The journal accepts quality research that is well justified, well planned and appropriately designed which properly addresses the research question. The decision about a manuscript is based on its importance, originality, clarity and relevance to the journal's scope and content. The reasons for rejection will be broadly in accordance with the principles described in a published manuscript by the editor in its sister journals. (click). The final decision for acceptance and rejection of manuscript will be taken by Journal's Editorial Team.
